Information - Cruise Port Harwich

Port of Harwich -- Harwich is the most northerly of the major cruise harbors on the UK's east coast, and one of three ports in the London area. Harwich International Port (HWH) is one of the UK’s leading multi-purpose freight and cruise passenger ports with excellent road and rail links to the Midlands, London and the South East. London and Cambridge are within easy reach.

Harwich Cruise Terminal

Ships dock at Harwich International Port terminal. Next door to the cruise terminal is a ferry terminal with large ferries going to the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Harwich Town Centre is 3-4 miles away.

International Port Terminal

The International port terminal is opened in 1996. Facilities within the cruise terminal include a cafe, and a restaurant in the ferry terminal. Outside the front entrance to the cruise terminal is a spacious coach park and a taxi rank. There's also a huge Morrisons Supermarket about a five-minute drive away.

Terminal is used by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Thomson Cruises.

How to get to Harwich

By Car :

Harwich is 90 miles from London, via the A12 and A14 also gives direct access to the Midlands and the northern motorway network.

From the South: Leave the M25 at junction 28 and follow the A12 (north) signposted Chelmsford and Colchester. At Colchester (Ardleigh Interchange) turn off the A12 onto the A120 following signs for Harwich. The road becomes single carriageway at Horsley Cross roundabout. Proceed for 6 miles until you reach Ramsey Hill Roundabout. Follow signs for Harwich International Port. Proceed for another 2 miles until you reach the roundabout - in the middle of the map below. As shown, go straight over this roundabout, and then go Left at the next roundabout, passing Safeways super market on your right hand side, then go over the next two roundabouts, past the freight yards on your right. Pass the Shell Petrol station on your left and proceed straight over into the roundabout to the check in lanes. From the North: It is easiest to use the A14 to Ipswich. At Ipswich join the A12 (south) towards Colchester. At Colchester join the A120 and follow as above.

There is a frequent National Express service to Harwich.

By Train :

The cruise terminal and ferry terminal has its own railway station with direct trains to London's Liverpool Street Station.

Harwich International Train Station is located next to the terminal building, with regular service connections to London Liverpool Street Station (70 - 90 minutes).

Bus numbered 20 or 20A goes around every 30 minutes to Harwich centre and terminates at the train station (doesn't run on a Sunday).

By Air :

Harwich offers easy access to London’s main airports.

London Stansted Airport : London Stansted is only 50 miles away, or 50 minutes by car or taxi and is the closest airport to the port. You can reach Stansted by taking the train to Colchester, less than a 30 minute journey. From the Colchester rail station there is an airport bus to London Stansted.

Port to port also offers coach service that transfer fly cruise passengers between the port of Harwich and Stansted Airport.

London Heathrow Airport : LHR airport is located 115 miles from Harwich cruise terminal. By car will take 2 to 3 hours to get to Harwich. There is also a very high chance of traffic delays as you exit or enter London. Best way to get to Harwich is by train. Trains run between Liverpool Street Station and Harwich. From Heathrow there are several options to get to Liverpool Street. You can a taxi, the Dot 2 Dot Hotel shuttle bus. The cheapest option is the London Underground but can be crowded.

London Gatwick Airport : This airport lies about 105 miles from the cruise terminal of Harwich England. Train from London Liverpool Street is the best option to get from Gatwick to Harwich.
